2025 started out rough when it comes to social media. Meta let go of their fact checkers and relaxed their enforcement policies, a TikTok ban was looming and I haven’t even mentioned all those X-alternatives. In all the madness, you may not have even noticed the new Instagram features, so here’s an update.
1. Edits – Instagram’s own version of CapCut
Do you know CapCut ? This is an app that is widely used for editing videos for TikTok. What CapCut can do, we can phone number library too, thought Instagram. They are coming with their own version: Edits. What can you expect (among other things)?
Edit videos in a user-friendly way.
‘ Image to video ‘ function: You can convert static images into moving videos with AI.click on the
An automatic subtitle function, available in multiple languages.
Create high quality videos via the app, with direct access to a ‘touch-up’ function, green screen, music and timer.
You can ask other Instagram users to review your concept(s) and leave live feedback in the app.
We still have to wait a little while, for now it says that the app will be available in the App Store and Google Play from March 13th.
2. Vertical profile grid
You probably didn’t miss this; Instagram has changed the profile grid to a more vertical layout. It took a bit longer on the click on the ‘customize preview’ option desktop version, but there too you can now see images vertically instead of square. From now on I would stick to the size 1080x1350px, then you’re always good and an image isn’t cut off.
Unhappy with how your ‘old’ photos are currently displayed in the profile grid? Luckily, you can crop marketing list your thumbnails! Here’s how:
click on one of your images and then on the 3 dots at the top right of that image
You can now resize the image to fit or drag it to crop it however you like, then don’t forget to click ‘done’!
This definitely works in the app on your phone, but I haven’t seen this feature on desktop yet.
